Fun with Roger and Jenny
The last time I saw Roger Waters live was 6 years ago the very same venue he played last night. That time I was on my own but yesterday my hot date for the night was Ms. Jennifer Dunn, an old friend from long ago whom I only just recently got back in contact with.
The evening began with a very nice meal at a large Chinese Restaurant where the saddest thing was having to walk past tanks full of lobsters and giant fish whose near future will consist or being boiled alive and eaten by patrons who have no conscience about cruelty to our fellow creatures.
A mad dash for the trains after our meal and having to take extra time to store our only slightly larger than permissible bags still left us a little bit late so that we missed a part of the first song performed. Thank you so much terrorists who have made concert attendance just that little bit harder and more annoying than it used to be before your exploits.
Anyway the entire concert setlist can be seen in this video taken from the same tour in Italy just last year
As you can see if you take the two hours and fifteen minutes it takes to watch the whole thing it mostly consists of the greatest hits of that old band he was in before he went solo whose name I've completely forgotten. The emphasis is mostly on The Dark Side of the Moon and Animals with some great staging of a Giant Flying Pig and screens dividing the VIP parts of the audience in half as the Battersea Power Station takes off into the stratosphere.
There were a few extra disgusting quotes by POTUS shown as white writing on a black background that he had yet to make a few months ago when the video was taken but the conclusion made was still the same:
The finale was the last two tracks from DSOTM done whilst a 3 Dimensional Pyramid appeared on top of the front half of the spectator section.
The encore this time consisted of Mother followed by Comfortably Numb interrupted by Mr. Waters walking along the entire front row and shaking hands with everyone. He looked like he was enjoying himself.
Afterwards some of my fellow concert goers accompanied me going home on the Train and Bus. Even if I didn't talk to them I could still tell by all the T-shirts and other merchandise they were bringing home as spoils of concert attendance.
And if you think I'm a bit fanatical when it comes to Mr. Floyd and that obscure almost forgotten band he was in before he went on to his much more succesful solo career here's some evidence to prove otherwise ...
It's a shame I can't repeat the whole experience when he does a second show tonight.
PS: And what do you know? Someone has already posted a video of the final encore taken from the opposite side of where we watched it all from yesterday
